There was also no lgbt+ representation, which is fine, there doesn't have to be, just kind of wish there was something more other than "girls go with boys, boys go with girls, and that's the only option, why would there be anything else?" kind of idea.

People might be bothered by kissing, which I saw in other reviews, so I'll give you a warning for that, especially in the first couple chapters (maybe first or second?) when America and this guy are kissing in a tree house or something (I can't remember his name right now, it's Sven or Aspen or something like that) I don't know what Maxon saw in her, she was disrespectful to him, kicked him in the crotch, yelled at him, and somehow he didn't care. America, the main character might have been better than some of the other girls, but she was all "oh no, I love the guy from back home but I like the prince oh no, do I want the crown or do I want to be happy and poor," and she was overall very annoying. For some people it might be older or younger, but I gave it 11+ because I think as long as kids can see and recognize how horrible of a role model these girls are, they should be able to read this book without many problems. Three years later, she got HarperTeen to take on The Selection, which came out on April 19, 2012. She began writing after a local tragedy in 2007,leasing the self-published book The Siren in 2009 while she was pregnant with her first son. In terms of the age rating, I gave it 11+. Kiera Marie Cass is the 1 New York Times Bestselling author of The Selection Series. Elana Roth, who is Cass’ agent, wasn’t particularly pleased. A One-star rating of the author’s book was posted on Goodreads, a popular reviewing website. Kiera Cass attracted attention, and not the good kind, in 2012. The idea was decent, but the execution was horrible. Kiera Cass describes herself as an awkward child who turned to writing as a means of better expressing her thoughts. I get that some people can't see how bad the writing is, so I don't mean to insult anyone, but I couldn't finish this.

I'm obviously not a professional writer, but the fact that even I, a 13 year old, has better writing than this published book by an adult, is impressive. Why did I ever think this was good?įor starters, the writing is TERRIBLE. This year, I was looking for books to read, and this was free on my kindle.

I read this last year, and I thought it was good, at the time.
